I’ve been working out at least three times a week since mid-December and I suppose that changes are starting to take place. I’m lifting more and might be putting on some weight, but for the life of me I can’t seem to get a decent ab-workout. I used to have this killer one that I picked up from the cheerleading squad at ND, it would really kick my ass; hundreds of ab-doobers in a session. Unless I’ve forgotten something or am doing things incorrectly, this workout isn’t doing much anymore. The gym has medicine balls to help out, and I think I’m going to start doing at least the ab workout and pushups even on off days.
Now that the weather is picking up, I’m ready to run again. I find myself sniffing the air and hopping around like a goon.
If you’re talking about the Fitworks where I go, I highly recommend the two ab benches that are near the training desk. You fit your feet under the little black things and then lie back against the pads…do you know which ones I mean? One if flat like a normal bench and the other is an incline. You can hug a weight against your chest to make it harder. The one that’s the best is the one with the real steep incline.
I also recommend the two machines that require you to prop your body up and then lift your legs in the air. If you do a few sets of 20 reps in a row, you should feel it! I do a set of 20 of just raising my legs straight out and then go right into a set of 20 of raising them in tuck position with my knees bent. And then the real killer is that I finish with a set of 20 of raising them out in front of me straight, holding them there and flexing at the knee and pulsing out…kind of hard to explain.
Yeah we must. I don’t mean the ab curl machines… I don’t like those.
I think we go to different FitWorks, Amanda. I’ve been using the ab-benches, but apart from the incline one, I’m not getting much out of it. I might call up friend I know who has some great conditioning routines.
I tore one of my abs ( a portion of the rectus abdominus) using one of those machines in high school. Took forever to heal.
